Connie Olsen brought in some articles about the U of M Hatcher Library Gallery regarding a WWII: The Homefront series that includes:
On display Nov. 11, Veteran’s Day, 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
This exhibit is located at the Hatcher North Lobby: Someone Talked! – World War II Posters from the U-M Library exhibits of photographs, posters, and other materials from the collections of the U-M library and the Bentley Historical Library.
Nov. 12th from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m.
Also in the Hatcher Graduate Library Gallery Room 100 on a CD release party celebrating Someone Talked! Memories of WWII featuring Joan Morris, mezzo-soprano; Robert White, tenor; William Bolcom, piano; and Hazen Schumacher, narrator; with a special appearance by students from Joan Morris’ class in Cabaret Performance. The performers will offer a generous sampling of songs and narration from the CD, conceived to resemble a radio show of the times.
On Nov. 17, 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. in the Library Gallery
Michigan on the March, A presentation about life on the University of Michigan campus during WWII. The program will include a brief talk by Brian A Williams, Associate Archivist, Bentley Historical Library, and excerpts from the film Michigan on the March which was produced by the U of M News Service in 1944.
On Nov. 19, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
Film screening of the Life and Times of Rosie the Riverter, a 1980 documentary on women who entered the labor force at defense plants and other workplaces outside the home during WWII. Introduced by Beth Strickland, Women’s Studies Librarian at the U of M.
Also on Nov. 19, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library, 8th Floor, Room 825 (Central Campus) is the Third Thursday Map Library Open House which will be showcasing “Maps of WWII”. It was 70 years ago this fall that the war officially began. The Map Library has one of the largest collections of maps produced for WWII in the U.S. They make up a significant portion of their collections and consist of maps produced for both civilian and military use. On display will be silk maps carried by pilots, German intelligence maps and aerial photos, weekly Newsmaps and information posters, detailed maps of the warfronts, and other interesting materials.
